LOVE FROM TOKYO

Its a story i didn't/don't understand. Why is a dark, ordinary-looking, OLD, scanty-haired, Tamil-speaking man popular in Japan??!!! Meeting a group of denizens from the above mentioned country didnt provide any insights.
Young Meura, in his early 20s, says a bit simplistically, "Rejni meuvie is vedy, vedy fahn... ". Englightening.

Moments later he does the moves from 'Baba' and shows off Rajni ring-tones on his mobile along with four of his mates with whom he'd come down to try and catch the first day, first show of 'Chandramukhi'.
Rajni mania went through the roof in Japan when an initiative of the NFDC (National Film Development Corporation) to launch 'Muthu' there turned out to be a roaring success. Ever since vast legions of Japanese fans have been gyrating to the tunes of Rajni "meuvies".

There are some sober ones too, like Buddhist monk, Hase Kawa. He's been to Chennai 8 times to try and catch a glimpse of the super-star but failed every single time. He accepts that with a Zen-like calm. His latest trip has also been unsuccessful and he will soon go back to his monastery. He may have a prayer on his lip, but he's likely to have a Rajni song in his heart.

Thalaivar does rock! :-) His charisma is not physical... It's very hard to describe but there is something about him...

That is the Kanth behind the Rajini, Al! Never try and demystify it in a journo-way. Well, in any way... it just doesn't work. Just fall for it and fall into the mystique of Rajini and that is an elixir to life's problems. Ensoy! BTW, where on earth are you these days?

i don't mean to pick on you but why is being dark a not so attractive quality?

Dear Anon,
Its not at all a not-so-attractive quality... I was just describing Rajnikanth and dark he certain is.

Learnfromme,

Are'nt journalists supposed to call it like they see it?! I dont understand what the problem is with my calling Rajni "dark"?? He is!! If you had said, "how can you call him ordinary-looking", then id understand, because that is a subjective thing. Besides, what i really think is fair-"wheatish"-dark... i dont care. Colour is not a standard of beauty.

Hi Alphasia
I completely agree with you ...I dont see what the big deal about him is - at the risk of being bludgeoned by angry rajni fans ...what is it about him that even the most mundane dialogues he delivers are met with piercing whistles and thunderous applause? He can be funny and all - but I find his stunts unbearable.
Anyway I guess we're reduced to communicating this way forever ...or maybe you'll call me?

Well I have met Rajinikanth a few times, though I dont see tamil movies much! By nature he is a very humble & frinedly person!

Perhaps that persona image is reflected more on the screen as well, which no wonder makes the viewers across go mad about him!!!!!!!!
